Xi, Putin meet at key Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Uzbekistan

China President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have met for highly-anticipated talks in Uzbekistan, where they are attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. Mr Putin thanked his Chinese counterpart for maintaining a balanced position on Ukraine. It was their first in-person meeting since Russia invaded Ukraine at the end of February. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit has been described as an alternative to Western alliances.
