The WHO said the number of global monkeypox cases fell by more than 20% last week. While infections in Europe dropped, the US and Latin America are still seeing heightened transmission. With vaccines still scarce, countries are administering smaller doses to cope with the shortfall. The monkeypox outbreak prompted the WHO to trigger its highest level alarm in late July, classifying the disease as a global public health emergency. So far, more than 45,000 confirmed cases and 15 deaths have been reported globally this year.
