US inflation slows slightly to 8.3% in August

Inflation in the US — the world’s largest economy — slowed slightly last month, but came in higher than economists had expected. The consumer price index rose by 8.3% in August. Analysts had expected the inflation rate to slow to around 8%. Still, it’s down from 8.5% in July, after hitting a 40-year high of 9.1% a month earlier.
