UK opposition calls for early general election as PM Liz Truss resigns after just six weeks

Britain’s opposition has called for an early general election after Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned just six weeks after taking office. She is the shortest-serving prime minister in British history. Speaking outside the door of her Number 10 Downing Street office, Ms Truss said she could not deliver the promises she made when she was running for Conservative leader. There will be a leadership election to be completed within the next week.
