Two Russia-backed Ukrainian regions announce annexation referendum plans

Moscow-backed separatists in Ukraine’s Kherson region will soon hold a referendum on joining Russia. Rebel leaders in the Luhansk region have also passed a law to facilitate the staging of a similar vote. Elsewhere, local officials said over 300 towns and cities in the Kharkiv region have been liberated in the past 12 days. Ukrainian troops have been seen seizing tanks, ammunition and other weapons left behind by Russian forces.
