Some 32,000 residents in Sydney and its surrounding areas have been ordered to evacuate or prepare to flee their homes. Australia’s largest city is bracing for what could be its worst flooding in 18 months. Several suburbs in the Australian state of New South Wales have been inundated with floodwaters, as relentless rain lashes the country’s southeastern coast. On July 2 and 3, Sydney recorded almost half its annual average of rainfall in just two days. This episode of wild weather comes on the back of floods that caused around $3.3 billion in damage between March and April.
