Sri Lanka’s acting president declares state of emergency

Sri Lanka’s acting president Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that the country’s negotiations for a bailout with the IMF are nearing conclusion. But there is still no end in sight to the island nation’s political and economic crisis. Another nationwide state of emergency has been declared, ahead of a key vote on Jul 20, when lawmakers are expected to elect a new president.
