Airport officials blocked Sri Lanka’s former finance minister Basil Rajapaksa from leaving the country, following protests by airline passengers who were angered when they saw him trying to depart. Basil is the brother of outgoing President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, whose whereabouts are uncertain. It’s not clear where Basil — who also holds US citizenship — was trying to go. The president is set to resign tomorrow (July 13), setting in train a process that opposition parties say will lead to the formation of a new government for the bankrupt nation.
