South Korean president condemns strike at Daewoo Shipbuilding

South Korea’s President Yoon Suk-yeol has condemned a strike at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, saying the illegal industrial action will not be tolerated. His remarks came as tensions heightened at Daewoo’s shipyard near the south coast city of Geoje, where more than 100 subcontractors have been striking for more than a month. Meanwhile, Labour Minister Lee Jeong-sik visited Geoje on Jul 19 afternoon and urged employees to return to work. But defiant staff say they will continue with the walkout until their demands are met.
