Russia takes full control of Ukraine’s Luhansk region

Russia has taken control of all of Ukraine’s Luhansk region. It makes up half of Donbas, which Moscow wants to control entirely. The new focus is the Donetsk region — the other half of the Donbas that Ukraine still holds. Russia is expected to try and take it the same way it did Luhansk — with overwhelming artillery that obliterated cities. Neighbouring cities have reported more intense shelling, with Sloviansk reporting the worst bombardment it has seen since the war began.
