Prison conditions in Singapore “acceptable’, essential needs of inmates are met: Shanmugam

Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam has said that prison conditions in Singapore are “acceptable”. He added that it fits in with the country’s philosophy with how these ought to be managed. Mr Shanmugam said this approach means the essential needs of inmates are met, and there have been low suicide and assault rates. His ministerial statement on the topic comes after a CNA documentary on prisons — “Inside Maximum Security” — generated interest.
