The Defence Ministry is prepared to allow more athletes to disrupt national service to train and compete in international competitions. Responding to questions in parliament on NS deferment for athletes and the eligibility criteria, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said each appeal for disruption or deferment must clear a very high bar, and is not licence to do away with NS obligations.
