Malaysia’s Parliament reconvenes amid talks of possible dissolution to pave way for early polls

Malaysia’s Parliament has reconvened for what many expect to be its final sitting. Speculations are rife that it will be dissolved several days after the tabling of the 2023 budget this Friday to pave the way for general elections. But there has been no date set for Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s meeting with the King to request the dissolution of Parliament. The government’s tenure ends mid-July 2023, but Mr Ismail Sabri agreed with his party’s head honchos in UMNO last Friday to call for early election in 2022.
