Malaysian PM Ismail Sabri does not rule out holding a general election this year

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has not ruled out a general election this year, amid claims that the window to hold it in 2022 has passed. He said the decision on when nationwide polls will be held is in the hands of his party’s top leadership in UMNO, who will meet soon. While it’s unclear when UMNO’s top five is meeting, its highest decision-making body, the supreme council, next meets on Sep 17.
