IT system outages at healthcare institutions caused by hardware failure: Janil Puthucheary

Two separate hardware failures in August and September caused network outages that affected the healthcare sector. The Health Ministry said those impacted included polyclinics and community hospitals. Patients also experienced a longer wait-time of up to an hour at affected healthcare facilities. Some had to reschedule their outpatient appointments while others faced a delay in receiving their medication. These healthcare institutions activated their own contingency plans to manage the disruptions. The Health Ministry is looking into the reasons behind these failures.
