G20 host Indonesia calls for collective action to tackle global climate issues

Indonesia has called for collective action on climate change, warning that failure to do so will result in devastating consequences. The country hosted a meeting of G20 environmental ministers in Bali today (Aug 31). The group is expected to release a joint communique focusing on three key issues: Sustainable recovery, land and ocean-based climate action, as well as resource mobilisation. But expectations of concrete measures are low, especially in the wake of the energy crisis triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has forced many countries to turn back to coal.
