Chief executives of firms found to have lapses in workplace safety, following serious or fatal incidents, will be called up to a commissioner and be held personally accountable. They may also be barred from hiring foreign workers for up to three months. These are some of the latest measures as part of a new six-month heightened safety period starting today (Sep 1). There have been 36 workplace fatalities so far this year, one less than the entire 2021. Within the next two weeks, firms must conduct a mandatory time-out period to review safety procedures and complete a checklist.
