Enforcement to keep HDB corridors clear to be stepped up after spate of fires caused by hoarding

Enforcement to remove clutter along public housing corridors will be stepped up in the coming months, after a spate of fires caused by hoarding. The National Development Ministry will also better educate the public of such dangers. Since 2014, a multi-agency group has been working hard to stem out hoarding. So far, 210 hoarding cases have been helped, but 260 are still ongoing. Meanwhile, the SCDF is embarking on a trial with HDB, town councils and Temasek Foundation to place and maintain one fire extinguisher at a lift lobby of every two HDB blocks.
