Current COVID-19 wave ‘will not be as severe’ as earlier Omicron wave: Ong Ye Kung

Singapore is near or at the peak of the current COVID-19 wave. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung has said the latest Omicron surge is not as severe as the previous one. Still, he reassured that resources will be ramped up, if needed. Hospitals are standing by to increase intensive care unit and isolation bed capacities. He added that the key is optimising resources so that hospitals are not overwhelmed. Singapore reported 12,784 new COVID-19 cases on July 5 — the highest daily tally since mid-March.
