Australia’s Online Safety Act: Tech giants made to share anti-child abuse steps or face hefty fines

Australia’s Internet regulator wants major tech giants to disclose measures they are taking to stamp out child abuse material on their platforms. The country’s eSafety Commissioner has sent notices to Facebook owner Meta, as well as Apple and Microsoft. They have 28 days to respond, failing which the companies will each face a fine of more than US$380,000.
