The political crisis in Sri Lanka is worsening. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has become acting president after ousted Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country. The military has been ordered to do “whatever necessary” to restore order as protesters continue to occupy government buildings. Akhil Bery, Director of South Asia Initiatives at the Asia Society in Washington DC, spoke about the developments in Sri Lanka.
