LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Jack Sparrow and Catwoman could be the two most popular Hollywood-inspired costumes seen this Halloween, a new U.S. survey of film fans revealed.
Fandango polled thousands to see what they are planning to wear this year and 70 percent of the respondents said their Halloween outfits were inspired by films.
"Pirates of the Caribbean" rogue Captain Jack earned the top spot for favorite male, movie-related costume, but Spider-Man, Dracula, Batman and Harry Potter were not far behind.
"Star Wars" villain Darth Vader also made the cut, as did Indiana Jones, Wolverine and Borat.
"Catwoman" was the No. 1 character women said they want to look like on Oct. 31.
Other top female costume vote-getters were Tinkerbell, Cinderella, adventurer Lara Croft, Cleopatra, Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz," Princess Leia from "Star Wars," screen icon Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Swann from "Pirates of the Caribbean" and John Travolta's Edna Turnblad from "Hairspray."
"Movies often shape popular culture, and Halloween is certainly no different," Ted Hong, vice president of marketing for Fandango, said in a statement. "By using an iconic image from the movies as your inspiration, it brings a certain larger-than-life quality to your Halloween costume."
