I know a lot of people out there have a problem with Hayden Christensen as an actor, and after his performances in the Star Wars prequels, I guess I can see why. That said, if he has to be in a movie, could you really ask for a better role than to have him play a guy who is basically unconscious for the entire film? Awake is an upcoming thriller from first-time writer/director Joby Harold about a man who experiences what is known as “anesthetic awareness” during open heart surgery — that is, his body is paralyzed, but he can still hear what is going on around him. Personally, this has got to be one of my biggest fears, and according to the movie’s trailer as many as 1 in 700 people have this happen to them! Yikes.
The catch is that while the man is in surgery, he begins to hear things he wasn’t meant to hear, and he struggles to figure out what’s real and what’s not. The trailer doesn’t reveal all that much, which is probably a good thing because I’m assuming there are some unexpected twists along the way. At least I hope there are, because otherwise this could be one really long and dull movie! The movie co-stars Jessica Alba and Terrence Howard. Awake hits theatres on November 30th; check out the trailer over at Yahoo! now.
