If seeing Eva Mendes' derrière islikely to offend, don't click on the pic! |
Eco-celebrities are popping up all over the show - using their influence to somewhat offset their lifestyles by helping promote positive change in the world. It's something that, in a hollywood-focused world, we can only applaud. The latest hollywood eco-buzz to hit the airwaves is Eva Mendes' recent PETA endorsement, where Eva makes a bare-naked stand for the furry critters in this world.
Anyone who has half an idea what is involved in the fur industry will understand the motivational pull to make such a curvaceous statement. Most victims of 'animal processing' live a miserable existence, many to the extreme, and those unfortunate enough to get caught up in the fur trade are no exception.
Did you know:
- Ranch-raised foxes are kept in cages only 2.5 feet square (minks in cages 1-foot-by-3-feet), with up to four animals per cage.
- Animals can languish in traps for days. Up to 1 out of every 4 trapped animals escapes by chewing off his or her own feet, only to die later from blood loss, fever, gangrene, or predation.
- To kill the animals without damaging their fur, trappers usually strangle, beat, or stomp them to death. Animals on fur farms may be gassed, electrocuted, poisoned with strychnine, or have their necks snapped. These methods are not 100 percent effective and some animals "wake up" while being skinned.
- Every year, thousands of dogs, cats, raptors, and other so-called "trash" animals (including endangered species like the bald eagle) are crippled or killed by traps. - furisdead.com
The following clip is very disturbing -
viewer discretion advised - but if you wear fur, you oughta know.... To be honest, footage like this makes me feel ashamed to be part of the human race.
Thanks Eva - I appreciate your ... er... statement. Hopefully more than just a few will look beyond the advert, so that our furry friends can benefit from its actual intent.
